Q&A With @Yolaforthewin, The Girl Behind The Super Abs

My Mantra Active have been Instagram friends with the awesome Yola for a little while now. Ever since connecting over social media, we have collaborated on a few occasions & Yola is just the coolest and most genuine person on Instagram. Even though she doesn't show her face too often, we sure do recognise her amazing abs from miles. We wrote a little story on Yola earlier, where she talks about "Why weight is just a number" but this time we'd like to ask her a few questions, as we know so do you ;)

So here we go, please welcome our Q&A with the amazing @yolaforthewin.

1 - Tell us more about the girl behind the killer abs,who are you & what do you do?
Hi guys, I’m Yola, a 27 year old girl from the Netherlands that’s into fitness. A lot. ;)
I teach Crossfit/Crosstraining at a gym called RAWFIT and alongside to that I work for myself, “yolaforthewin” where I take care of Personal Training sessions.

2 - How did you get into fitness?
I’ve always been the active and energetic type of girl. I did gymnastics as a kid/teenager and I still love to walk on my hands. Growing up I decided to join a ‘regular’ gym and that’s where I fell in love with weightlifting/crossfit.

3 - What's your daily health routine? Share a day of food and fitness with us.
I’m not sure if I have a routine. I do eat healthy and workout at least 4 times a week but only when I feel like it. I do 2-3 Crossfit WODS a week and 2-3 times weightlifting. 
A day of food usually contains low fat greek yoghurt with fruits for breakfast, wholegrain bread/wraps with veggies such as cucumber, tomatoes and carrots for lunch, 2 to 3 snacks such as bars, smoothies and nuts (sometimes healthy ones, sometimes not) and lots of veggies and some carbs for dinner.

4 - So how did you get those killer abs which we keep drooling over on your Instagram?
I’m genetically blessed with abs. As long as I maintain a normal and healthy weight (which can vary between 55 and 65 kilo’s) I have these abs. So sorry guys haha!

5 - Tell us more about how you became a social influencer? Did you intend to, or did it just happen?
It happened. But not like overnight. My account started to grow real quick as soon as I uploaded some shots of me before or after workouts (mostly without a shirt on..obviously haha). Some of these shots went viral and people started asking me about my fitness and food routine. Then companies started to notice my account and it’s still growing steady nowadays.

6 - What advise would give to someone who's new & would like to become a health & fitness social influencer like you. 
Just be you. Show your strengths but also embrace your flaws. Choose one thing you’d like to focus on and go for it (food, fitness, activewear etc).

7 - Did you approach brands or did they approach you?
They approach me ever since I added a ‘business mail and inquiries’ mail in my profile. I’m still amazed by the amount of brands that reach out each day.

8 - Who are your favourite brands you've worked with so far?
I’ve worked with lots of brands but here are some of my favs that I often work with and that I really enjoy wearing. Starting of with MyMantraActive of course. Adanola, ICANIWILL, Jogha, Xahara, Vigg and Lorna Jane. These brands have such an inspiring and motivational vibe that you just can’t not like them.

9 - Is it easy being a social media influencer? Do you get many requests for collaborations?
It does take up a lot of time but it’s definitely worth it because it’s fun. I spend at least 2 hours a day answering business mails.

10 - How do you keep them all under control? I remember you telling me sometimes you receive packages you never even agreed on receiving?
I don’t say yes to everything. I only work with companies that I genuinely like and I only shoot gear that I would wear myself. Most of the time I receive amazing outfits but sometimes I have to be honest and tell companies that I can’t promote their product because it doesn’t match my standards or values.

11 - How do you reset when life gets a bit too overwhelming?
I go on Holidays quite often but it’s not that I absolutely need them to prevent a mental breakdown ;) I never push myself into a direction I don’t like going and I can switch things around if needed or wanted.

12 - So what's next? What projects have you got coming up?
I have some cool collabs coming up (including a film) as well as the launch of the website.

13 - When will we see a BLOG/WEB from you?
Soon. Real soon. Starting off with a website and will add a blog later.

14 - You love travelling, where have you been so far & what's your favourite place?
I love sunny destinations. This year I’ve been to Bali, Spain and Fuerteventura so far. But I also love to surf at the Atlantic Coasts in France or at Cape Verde. Planning on visiting Ibiza and Formentera soon.

15 - You own some of our leggings and bikinis, what's your review on those?
I love every single item I own. The leggings have a great and comfy fit for every type of workout. The bikini’s are my absolute fav. Even being part of #teamboobs they offer support but also have the cutest looks. And they do great in pictures!

16 - You have also just been given the opportunity to be a coach at a fitness retreat in Bali with New Horizon Active Escapes. Tell us more.
New Horizon are an active holiday brand based around Bali & Thailand. They are very new & an upcoming brand working with professional fitness coaches, which go away on an active escape with them. This year they're kicking off with a retreat on Koh Tao island & then Bali with guest coach Zanna Van Dijk. So going into next year, i'll be joining the team for their Bali active escape. It's an exciting opportunity & it gives people from all over the world the chance to come and train with me in paradise ;)

17 - So you'll be in Bali for your very first fitness retreat in June? How do people sign up to come and train with you?
It's simple. If you'd like to book the Bali retreat, follow this link & book now. You only have to pay 30% deposit now & the remaining balance 3 months prior to departure, so you have plenty of time to save up. If Bali is not your cup of tea, they also have 2 locations in Thailand; Koh Samui & Koh Tao. Both islands are stunning.

18 - What sort of workouts will you be doing at the retreat?
My workouts are known for the high intensity full-body approach with crossfit elements. My workouts can vary from jumping ropes (let’s work on those doubles!) to bodyweight exercises at circuit trainings but also endurance and flexibility/mobility sessions will be included. Each and every one of you will be upside down at least once without having too many cocktails ;)

19 - Do you ever come across obstacles? How do you overcome them?
Take a deep breath and take a leap. I sometimes need to ask for a helping hand to jump. Sometimes I fail, sometimes I bruise but that’s part of the game. Battle scars are the ones you’ve earned.
