MAE is an active wear/ life style brand. Selling active wear in gorgeous neutral colours, casual but on trend clothing with a few accessories dedicated to my ladies that squat ;)
I always dreamed to have my own business, to be my own boss. I am really into my fitness and I found it hard to find activewear that was more neutral, minimalistic and on trend with current fashions, so I started to look into how I could create a collection that would go perfectly at the gym or outside of it too.
Having worked in retail management for a many years, the creative and business side have been easier for me, so the most challenging thing has been trying to build up the exposure via social media while still working full time in another job.
I used my own money to start the business, on every pay day I would put what money I could into the brand.
Pretty much every spare moment I get! I will wake up early to work on MAE, I then go to my ‘daytime’ job, then when I’m home I’ll stay up till around midnight still working on it :) Basically no days off but I love it.
Working for myself means everything, its give me the confidence that we are capable of achieving anything.
Travelling is a massive passion of mine, as MAE is an online brand my plan is if it could grow to a point of great success then I could travel and take it with me ;)
Whilst travelling I found myself to be at my most happiest, Asia was even more beautiful then I expected I was inspired by their positivity, way of life and of course the beauty that you find on every street.
After spending a few months in Asia I think maybe there. I struggle to settle as I love to explore but I feel Asia, especially Thailand had everything I could ever wish for in a country to live in ( the people, the culture.. beaches...pad thai and pancakes ;-) )
I love to stay active, the gym is my happy time, its a place where you can fully focus on you and since MAE is an activewear company I feel that being active myself helps so much in regards to creating new collections.
I have learned that it is definitely hard work but if what you are doing is your passion it will not feel like ‘work’ and turns into a reward as you watch it grow.
Yes I do, It can very helpful when you know others who are likeminded or have their own businesses. Even if their business isn’t in the same industry as yours, we all have knowledge that we can share with each other.
I am on social media ALOT, this helps to be aware of competitors, current trends and also help in finding inspiration. I have also taken online courses on marketing just the build up my knowledge even more, there is always room for improvement.
I would say that moment or time they are waiting for probably won’t come around as we can sometimes brush our dreams aside. If it really is their passion I would suggest to save, do their research on the industry and give it a go. Start with baby steps and see how it works out. We have this one life so lets do what makes our hearts happy :)
Personally, I would say you do need quite a bit of money. I started MAE with very little money and have slowly bought in stock. Looking back it would’ve been better for my company if I had saved a larger sum of money to then be able to buy and launch a full collection to add to the website in one go, instead of little bits every few months.
The future goals are to produce more active sets, gain more exposure and hope that MAE will keep on growing and gain the success I wish.
