Not long ago we were away on a dreamy active escape trip with New Horizon Escapes in Bali & absolutely fell in love with Canggu. Canggu is one of the nicest areas in
Bali that still has some charm, with it’s dreamy rice fields, friendly locals, walking distance from the beach, incredible food & a very chilled vibes.
If you know of Bali you're probably also already following a list of cafes that you would eventually like to visit. We know this because we followed them all for a little while before we finally came here to test them all out. So in this blog, we’d like to share with you the cafes we’ve experienced around the Canggu area.
Some of them will be older places that you might already recognise, and some brand new that have just popped up in the last year or so. We were in Bali last year, and upon visiting this year couldn’t believe the amount of new cafes that have sprung up everywhere. Of course that’s a great thing, as it gives you a huge variety and you’re almost setting yourself up on a little mission - to eat your way through as many as you can while on vacation here, and hey we don’t blame you - WE'VE DONE SO FOR AN ENTIRE WEEK ;)
So let’s do this.
1 - Made’s Banana Flour Bakery
Now before we go any further, I will make it clear that this place is more of a bakery than a cafe, however when you go there, they will do their best to accommodate you. When we turned up we got greeted by one of the owners who took us through the entire process of how they turn bananas into flour and then the flour into their incredibly delicious baked goods. Banana flour is the next big thing & it’s actually healthier than your normal flour, it’s full of antioxidants, lower in sugar, Gluten free & just incredibly incredibly yummy.
It took this bakery a long time to work out how to make everything from banana flower, as it doesn’t quite work out the same as normal flour. We tried baked bread with avocado, waffles, pancakes, apple pie & croissants.
My absolute favourite was the croissant, it was just so out of this world. I wish they did worldwide delivery :)

2 - Recovery Room
This little gem is actually a very hidden one indeed, and we only stumbled across it because Adam was viewing a villa right opposite from the cafe. With only a short distance from the beach and away from your usual cafes, this one was one of our favourites for quite a few reasons. First of all, it’s not overly crowded & has a very chilled vibe. You can sit at a table or crash on their pillows & nap. Besides the yummy food and relaxed vibes, you will also get to have doggy cuddles with the local resident Bombolo; a sweet golden retriever who will watch your every move, hoping you'll take your eyes off your food so he can try it ;)

3 - Ruko Cafe
Ruko is a small and bustling cafe not far from Finns beach club. We enjoyed their amazing coffee, fresh coconuts, smoothie bowl & an English style breakfast. Of course we always end a meal with a delicious stack of pancakes. I blame Adam for his sweet tooth & addiction to pancakes ;)
The menu was super quirky & we couldn't help but take a photo of the names of their burgers. Can't wait to go back.

4 - Cafe Cinta
This gem has one of the most beautiful Bali features a cafe can have, and that’s a rich, green rice paddy right in its back yard. As soon as you enter the cafe and walk to the back, you will be overlooking the vast green fields & breathe in the fresh, crisp air.
The vibe here is also super chilled & we could've stayed there for hours working away on our laptops & trying new things on the menu ;)
5 - Sprout Cafe
Sprout cafe is a hidden gem behind a wall of green bushes. As you walk in you will be greeted by a huge table in the middle with a big bouquet of fresh flowers, smiling staff & a huge colourful bird drawn on the wall. We shared a trio of salads between the 2 of us as we couldn’t quite decide to just go for one. We also had a burger, a mezzo platter & some more delicious coffee & coconuts. No meal is ever complete without a little caffeine kick & fresh coconuts.
6 - Bali Buda
This one is slightly out of the way & not directly in Canggu, but it’s a well worth trip. Bali Buda comes with a little bakery of yummy goodies, and also a small shop where you can find anything from glass straws, natural beauty products, granola, fresh fruit and veggies + loads more. This little gem is worth a visit as you can stock up on snacks & treats for your next few days of adventure or your flight back home.
We went all out and ordered a bunch of things off their delicious menu. If you end up going up to Ubud, you will find their 2nd branch there. Pay both of them a visit ;)
7 - Crate Cafe
Crate Cafe is located in the main area of Canggu & is one the busiest cafes we’ve been to thus far. Crate is a no fuss cafe, you turn up to a concrete block, the menu is written on the wall with chalk, the waiters are cheerfully running around serving their yummy food and the owner is there every day making sure both the customers and the team have a good time. I had their delicious smoothie bowl, while Adam had scrambled eggs & bacon on a huge slice of brown bread + an omelette (he really made sure to get enough protein in his diet:)) MEN...
8 - Cafe Vida
This cafe is one of the most popular & well known cafes in Canggu. One quick look on their Instagram account and you’ll understand why everyone is rushing to eat here when they come to Bali. We personally prefer the more ambient cafes, but we couldn’t resist not trying Cafe Vida. Food is yummy & you may have to wait a little if you go during lunch time.
9 - Cafe Organic
This cafe once again is one of the more popular cafes in Canggu & also in Semyaniak where they have their 2nd branch. We preferred their Canggu location because it was a little more relaxed and breezy & the staff weren't as frantic as the time we visited the Seminyak branch. Food here never really fails, coffee is great, smoothie bowls are delicious & the atmosphere is awesome. Did we also mention that their outside seating area has hammocks? ;)

10 - Milk & Madu
These guys are one of our favourites for one and one reason only. Their food is super unique and creative & they have a Nalu bowls bar attached. So naturally Adam always has bacon, eggs & pancakes while I slowly drown myself in a delicious smoothie bowl by Nalu.
11 - Nalu Bowls
If you’re a smoothie bowl lover, you’ve just arrived to smoothie bowl heaven. All these guys serve is simply smoothie bowls. They have quite a few branches across Bali, so you can't really miss them, go get your smoothie bowl fix :)
12 - Motion Cafe
A small and cosy cafe in Canggu that serve delicious things like sweet potato waffles with greens + salmon and funky heart shaped pancakes. Well worth the visit.
13 - Satu Satu Coffee Company
This was officially the first cafe we tried in Bali. Before they changed location, is used to be located just around the corner from our AirBnB apartment we rented for the month, so we always knew that our caffeine fix was only a few meters away. They're known for their amazing coffee & great food. A must visit for sure.
14 - Betelnut Cafe
This gem is located in the main Canggu area & is next to a few other awesome cafes like Cafe Organic & Crate cafe. You have the option to sit upstairs where you get a little breeze coming through, or if you're too hot there's always the air conditioned room downstairs. Overall we enjoyed our food & drinks here and would always go back for more.
15 - Watercress
This cafe is once again one of our favourites (yes i know i've said that a few times now, but it's true!). We visited both the Ubud & Canggu branch and loved both of them. At the one in Canggu you can order food off the menu or if you fancy mixing your own salad, they have some yummy things behind the counter. If you're in the area & fancy trying another cafe, you can visit The Spicy Coconut which is just a few minutes away & is vegan only.
16 - Shelter Cafe
This little piece of paradise is hidden upstairs but you won't be able to miss it because there's a Nalu Bowl's bar downstairs that will entice you to come in. Shelter & Nalu run together from the same place & you'll get 1 menu from each of them. Shelter is always packed from 10am onwards & there's a good reason behind it. Being upstairs means there's a nice breeze going through to cool you down from just having your latte. Food is gorgeous, staff are lovely & the atmosphere is awesome. We went back to this cafe a few times as we just couldn't get enough of it ;)
17 - Sisterfields
Now Sisterfields is a pretty big deal. The reason I say this is because there's always a queue outside. Of course that's not something you want to hear, because when your stomach is growling, all you want to do is demolish an entire stack of pancakes & wash it down with some great coffee. The queue is so worth it & once you sit down you'll be glad you came. Can I just recommend that you have this pancake as either the main, or as a sharing dessert because it's hands down - THE BEST PANCAKE I'VE EVER HAD.
18 - The spicy coconut
This is a very little & cosy gem also around Canggu area. We stopped for some breakfast & of course it had to be pancakes & smoothie bowls kind of morning. What else would you have in a cafe in Bali hey? ;)
