10 fitness and health tips

-

I love to stay healthy, both when I'm at home in the UK and when I'm on the road travelling with our 2nd brand New Horizon Escapes. If I don't go to the gym in 2 days, I feel like my world is ending, so I always try and stay active either through long walks, stretching on my mat at home on my break from the computer or going to the gym. My partner Adam is very good with routine, so he drags my 8 month pregnant butt to the gym pretty much every single morning. It is definitely more challenging waking up here in the UK on a grey and cold morning, than it is in Thailand. So today I decided to remind myself why health is important to me and how to do it better. Here are my 10 health tips, that I live by every single day.

1 - Staying healthy is not a chore/ Make it fun - Working in the fitness industry as a personal trainer, I've come across this barrier over and over again. People seem to think that they have to do something they hate at the gym in order to stay healthy. So why not find something you're passionate about? When I was 17 I got into kickboxing because I thought it was badass to. That kept me active and healthy for almost 10 years. I found a family there in the people that trained alongside me and it was a place for me to reside in when I felt low. So find your tribe, find your happy place and do the type of ACTIVE that suits you, not that's hot on Instagram ;)

2 - Don't listen to all the crazy trends/ or advice - The worst thing you can do as a newbie or someone who struggles with commitment is to listen to advice from all 100 instagram coaches you follow. How about you choose something that resonates with you? If that involves eating a little white bread & butter daily, let that be it. At the end of the day, as long as you balance out your diet with healthy foods, who cares about what Instagram thinks? Live a happy life and say no to yo-yo dieting. P.S (the butter and bread example is my all time obsession haha).

3 - Stay hydrated/ be happy - Our bodies are made up of 50% water, so this is why it's important to keep a flask next to you to keep hydrated. When I don't drink water I feel sluggish, tired and moody. So do yourself a favour, get yourself a reusable canteen bottle and get hydrated. Be the best version of yourself on a daily basis. Are you forgetting to drink it? Why not stick a note on the bottle that says "DRINK ME"? There you go, problem fixed ;)

4 - Clean up your fridge/ cupboards - Let's be honest, when you go round your mums house, and you've been good all week, but you see those biscuits in there (winking at you;) and you just can't help yourself and before your brain even registered what you were doing, your mouth ate them. That happens when bad stuff is laying around the house. Only have in your pantry stuff that you know is good for your health. Want a little treat? Sure why not? Perhaps get some dark chocolate, or a little something else, but not tons and tons of it.

5 - You do you - Don't try to copy someone else's journey. It never works out. We are all different, we have different minds, bodies, moods, life situations etc. Do what works for you and not your neighbour and don't feel bad for it. Instagram is a lot to blame for us comparing ourselves to others. So just acknowledge what others do, respect them and do your own thing. Your mind will thank you for it.

6 - Eat foods that are alive/ More raw foods - As much as I'm not vegan, I try and eat as much fresh and alive foods as possible. I love the idea that no harm has gone into the foods that I eat and I like to eat as much as I can from farmers markets - A ( That makes me feel great about myself. Also the power of plants is incredible, surround yourself with these kinds of foods that you feel will uplift  you and nourish you.

7 - Meditate/ relax and do nothing sometimes - Meditating for even a few minutes a day has proven to perform miracles on our minds and bodies. If you live in a fast paced life, it's important to stop and just be. We are not designed to be robots. In fact you know what happens when we go at 100 miles an hr without stopping for months in a row? Chronic Fatigue happens. Your body just collapses because it's reached its maximum capacity. What does that mean? We are not machines, we need to stop and recover both mentally and physically. This is where spa weekends, wellness retreats and meditation come in handy.

8 - If you indulge in food it's ok/ enjoy it and move on - This one is very close to my heart because so many years in a row I used to beat myself up every time I indulged in something I classed as "BAD" nowadays. It all started with generally having a bad diet and associating all bad foods with negative thoughts. Eventually I got into health and fitness, but I still never let go of the negative thought about foods that were higher in calories/sugar/carbs etc. Only in the last year or so I have fully learned to appreciate food and it eat with consciousness. I now eat cakes, ice cream, crisps & other bad foods. I acknowledge them as fuel, as a treat for the soul, but never as a negative thing. I want it, therefore I will have it and I will not over indulge, because it's always there if I want it again. The rest of the time I eat healthy and balanced meals, because I love my body and it deserves the best.

9 - We are not supposed to be lean/ stop chasing the six pack - Since when did our ancestors walk around ripped with six packs and sipping on protein shakes? Stop chasing the ideology of modern society. Us women are supposed to carry on humanity, so how will we do it with sub 12% body fat? Some people are genetically predisposed to having that type of body. But for the rest of us, we have fat on our hips, waists, triceps and we have cellulite. This is the norm. So if you have love handles and you just can't seem to shake them off, just let them be, I'm pretty sure your man appreciates them & so should you ;) You are beautiful...

10 - Love who you are first before you make any changes - I hear these stories many times, "I lost loads of weight, but I'm still not happy". Well why do you think that is? Because you haven't accepted your body, you haven't given it the love it deserved before you started your transformation. So learn to love yourself first, then if you feel like change is needed, continue with your journey, but do so safely.

I hope these 10 tips have helped you. If not all 10 of them, I hope that at least 1 of them resonated with you. Stay healthy and be happy.
